Family typology associated with neuropsychological performance in preschool

Introduction: dynamics and conformation of families has been notably modified, due to sociocultural and paradigm related changes, regarding to sexuality, gender perspective and parenting. The study tried to describe the association between family typology and neuropsychological performance in preschoolers. Method:The study adopted an empirical and analytical paradigm, using a quantitative approach with a descriptive comparative kind, with a non-experimental design and cross-sectional. There were used the following instruments: Neuropsychological Battery for preschoolers (BANPE) and a sheet of socio-demographical data. The sample was composed by 120 preschoolers from 3 to 5 years old from a private school. Results: Analysis showed through statistic used that there are no significant differences in the neuropsychological performance and the various ways of family grouping. Conclusion: Protective factors such as high socio-economic status, caretaker level of schooling and strengths of the private institutions, would explain why there was no differences between the various ways of family grouping.Downloads
