The hormone that may reduce depression and neuronal death

Even though depression and neuronal death are present in up to 75% of Parkinson disease patients, currently, none of the drugs for this disorder relieves both symptoms simultaneously. Results from researchers of the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery might change this situation. Recent studies from the Department of Neurochemistry of that Institute show that dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a steroid hormone of both men and women that is deficient during aging, may have this modulatory effect in the nervous system.
